Storyboard Grammar:
1.every sequence open with his shoes.
the bearing for Louis to navigate his life
2.Louis never look at people's eyes.
3.how we show his surroundings and other classmates personalities? Fortunately Louis is not a kid who looks, but he observes.
4.Environment is oddly and unproportionally immersive to the characters, sometime they are even like tiny chess pieces.
Set Design
conceived by a kid +observed by Louis= intimate and distance at the same time=dollhouse look
Old School
repetitive, lazy for creative decoration
made of metal and wood, full of sharp angles, not very kid friendly

the most important things are circled out
it is the place where Louis feels truly comfortable with. Everything he prepares for school.Louis specifically organised them so everything has their functions and their places.

with all the wear and tear, you can feel the place is used and tired, so as Louis.

What is tactile means to our film:

classroom scene
-Morning
it is the beginning of a memory
this world as it is a social theater: directional light to make it like a spot like on stage,
At the beginning of a day, so it is very soft cold sunlight, filling up the room, the triangle created a spot for louis
-sunset
the spotlight became a trap
The end of the day, the shadow is more present , created a trap for louis. The tone is warm but the redness create an unsettling feeling. and everything is more exaggerated
with the cool tone of artificial light from the hallway and led lamps.
COMPO BREAKDOWN:
filming in a miniature set from the past:
exaggerated dust
atmospheric haze to created layers of the space
tree silhouette with its unorganized form pose

allow overexposure as the realistic photograph being developed

2.Nightmare sequence
the light is the lead of the nightmares, a representation of Louis start to lose his pivot--his shoes.
1.Classroom starts to deconstruct, darken the the room light, but enhance the directional light for the surrealism

everything is upside down but the light is still carrying on to lead Louis' fall

the organic form of the tree pose as an threat, light is still carrying on to lead Louis' fall

tree holes formed as human eyes on it, as if there are a lot of eyes looking at louis' fall that he can't avoid eye contact
